How Bond Yield Works
Current Yield = Annual Coupon / Purchase Price. This shows the income return relative to your purchase price. Yield to Maturity (YTM) is the total return anticipated on a bond if held until maturity, accounting for coupon payments and the difference between purchase price and face value. A bond bought below face value (at a discount) will have a YTM higher than its coupon rate, while a bond bought at a premium will have a YTM lower than its coupon rate.
