How It Works

For arithmetic sequences each term differs from the previous by a constant difference d. For geometric sequences each term is multiplied by a constant ratio r. The sum Sₙ is the total of the first n terms.

Arithmetic: aₙ=a₁+(n−1)d, Sₙ=n/2(a₁+aₙ) | Geometric: aₙ=a₁·r^(n−1), Sₙ=a₁(1−rⁿ)/(1−r)
